Pierre Tamer, MD

Fellowship-Trained Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. Pierre Tamer is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee arthritis. His guiding philosophy is simple: learn from the best, train relentlessly, and deliver the highest level of care to every patient.

He earned his undergraduate degree from UCLA, his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, completed his orthopedic surgery residency at UCSF–St. Mary’s Medical Center, and pursued advanced fellowship training in hip and knee replacement at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.

While many orthopedic surgeons perform joint replacements, few dedicate additional years solely to mastering complex hip and knee reconstructions. Dr. Tamer chose that path to ensure his patients receive the most specialized, precise, and compassionate care available.

Hands-On Experience, Lifelong Learning

Dr. Tamer has performed hundreds of hip and knee surgeries, from routine joint replacements to complex revision (“re-do”) procedures. His expertise extends beyond the operating room: he has published orthopedic research and presented his work at national and international conferences.

He is deeply committed to continuous learning, staying at the forefront of surgical innovation, implant design, and evidence-based techniques. His mission is to combine proven experience with cutting-edge knowledge, so each patient benefits from the safest and most effective treatment possible.

Philosophy of Care

Dr. Tamer’s approach centers on helping patients restore mobility, relieve pain, and return to the activities that make life meaningful, whether that’s playing with grandchildren, traveling, returning to sports, or simply walking without discomfort.

He partners closely with each patient across the continuum of care, starting with nonoperative treatments such as medications, injections, and physical therapy, and advancing to minimally invasive surgical options when appropriate.

For Dr. Tamer, joint replacement is more than a procedure; it’s a pathway to reclaiming independence and quality of life. He is driven by the profound transformation he witnesses when patients rediscover the freedom arthritis once took away.

Every patient’s story is unique, and so is his approach. He takes pride in tailoring each treatment plan to reflect an individual’s goals, values, and lifestyle. Patients often describe him as straightforward, approachable, and genuinely invested in their well-being.

Returning Home

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Bakersfield, California, Dr. Tamer grew up in a multicultural household that instilled a deep appreciation for family, community, and meaningful connection. Coming from a family of physicians in diverse specialties, he developed an early respect for the art of healing and the responsibility that comes with it.

Though his education and fellowship took him across the country, his dream was always to return home. Today, Dr. Tamer is proud to care for the very community that helped shape his values and purpose.

Beyond Medicine

Outside of surgery, Dr. Tamer enjoys spending time with his wife — his childhood sweetheart — and their daughters. A lifelong tennis player, he has learned discipline, focus, and perseverance, all qualities that have guided his path inside and outside of medical practice. He stays active, loves being outdoors, and finds fulfillment in giving back to the community that welcomed him home.
