John D. Temple, MD
As a member of the physician staff at OrthoCarolina, Dr. Temple is trained to treat general orthopedic conditions as well as more specialized sports-related conditions. He earned his Bachelor of Science in chemistry at Winthrop University, SC and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He completed his internship in general surgery and his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA. He then completed his fellowship in sports medicine at the Kerlan-Jobe Sports Medicine Clinic in Los Angeles, where he worked with the Los Angeles Lakers, Dodgers, Kings, Anaheim Ducks, and the University of Southern California Trojans. Dr. Temple belongs to the Omnicron Delta Kappa Leadership Society, the American Medical Association, the North Carolina Medical Society, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He is also a candidate member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. A native of Michigan, Dr. Temple is married to Dr. Ana-Maria Temple and has two children, Alexandra Marie and Jake Thomas. In the 1990s, he was captain of Winthrop University’s Division I men’s basketball team, and he still plays basketball in his spare time. He also enjoys woodworking and travel.
