John L. Masonis, MD
Dr. Masonis joined Miller Orthopaedic Clinic (now OrthoCarolina) in 2002. He is a graduate and former football captain of Lehigh University. He earned his medical degree, graduating summa cum laude, from Jefferson Medical College. After completing his orthopedic residency and internship at Carolinas Medical Center, Dr. Masonis received an internationally recognized fellowship at the London Health Sciences Center in Canada. He gained additional training in the treatment of hip dysplasia at the University of California at San Diego, focusing on the treatment of adolescent and adult hip problems. He received specialty training in unicompartmental knee arthroplasty at Oxford University in England. Dr. Masonis has focused his orthopedic career on hip and knee replacement surgery for arthritis. He enjoys the ability to assist patients in returning to a pain-free, active lifestyle through the use of joint replacement. He is actively involved in research regarding surgical techniques, joint replacement materials and revision joint replacement surgery. He has published numerous scientific articles on these topics and continues his research efforts, in conjunction with Carolinas Medical Center, with the goal of developing a better solution for younger adults with disabling arthritis. Dr. Masonis and his wife, Lynne, love the North Carolina outdoors. His interests include fly-fishing, hiking and spending time with his two children, Jack and Claire.
