Thomas K. Fehring, MD
Dr. Tom Fehring graduated cum laude from Wake Forest University, where he played varsity football and received an NCAA post-graduate scholarship for excellence in athletics and academics. He completed his orthopedic residency at Vanderbilt University and completed a fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery in Boston. Dr. Fehring is the only Charlotte member of the Knee Society which selects members for their excellence in knee research. In 2000, he received the prestigious Knee Society Ranawat Award for the best paper on a surgical technique, and in 2004, he won the Knee Society Coventry Award for the best basic science paper. Dr. Fehring is one of only 100 members of the Hip Society, having been selected among candidates around the world for his excellence in hip research. Only 40 surgeons in the world are members of both the Hip Society and the Knee Society. Dr. Fehring is nationally recognized for his joint replacement research. He has published over 45 scientific articles and has given more than 300 lectures to other orthopedic surgeons around the country on topics related to joint replacement. He has also written six book chapters for various textbooks concerning joint replacement.
