Dr. Rhyne was born in Charlotte and grew up in Winston-Salem. After suffering a football injury at Davidson College, he had an opportunity to experience orthopedics firsthand. It made quite an impression. In 1990, he returned to Charlotte to join the Charlotte Spine Center (now the OrthoCarolina Spine Center) as a specialist in the care and surgical treatment of cervical and lumbar spine disorders.
He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and served both his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at Wake Forest University/North Carolina Baptist Hospital. In 1989, he was awarded a coveted fellowship in spinal surgery at the University of Maryland.
Dr. Rhyne is an active member of the North American Spine Society, the Spine Arthroplasty Society and the Orthopedic Trauma Association. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is a past president of the North Carolina Spine Society and is currently secretary/treasurer of the North Carolina Orthopaedic Society.
For relaxation, he plays golf, swims, runs and enjoys being with his family. He is involved in local medical, civic and church groups and is active in alumni affairs at nearby Davidson College.
